October is bringing more than cooler weather and colourful autumn leaves. Several changes are taking effect across Germany this month, and some could directly affect your money, travel and everyday life.

From cheaper fuel and a new digital option for official documents to alcohol restrictions at railway stations, new consumer rules and the annual clock change, there are a few things worth putting on your October checklist.

Solana’s Price Crashed. Its Network Didn’t.

Wallets are returning, stablecoin supply is rising and institutional money is still flowing in. Our free guide explains why we’re accumulating SOL now, plus the key metrics and risks to watch.

Here’s your quick, simple guide to what’s changing—and what it means for you.

1. Fuel Tax Relief Arrives

Good news for drivers: Germany is introducing a temporary reduction in energy tax on petrol and diesel from 1 October. The measure is intended to reduce pressure at the pump through the end of 2026. The final price reduction at individual petrol stations can vary.

What does that mean for you? A 50-litre tank could potentially cost several euros less.

2. Führungszeugnis Goes Digital

Need a criminal-record certificate for a job, visa or other official purpose? From October, people applying online can receive a digital Führungszeugnis as a PDF through their BundID account, making the process more convenient.

3. More Railway Stations Become Alcohol-Free

Germany is expanding restrictions on drinking alcohol at Deutsche Bahn stations. The rollout is taking place in stages, with further implementation during October.

Important: sealed alcohol can still be transported, while restaurants and catering businesses at stations are treated differently.

4. New Chemical Restrictions

From 10 October, EU restrictions on PFHxA, a type of PFAS chemical, begin applying to certain products, including some textiles, food packaging, cosmetics and impregnation products.

5. Get Ready to Turn the Clock Back

On the night of 24–25 October, Germany switches from summer time to winter time. At 3:00 AM, clocks move back to 2:00 AM.

That means one extra hour of sleep—but darker evenings are coming too.
