What Is Changing?
More direct examinations: For doctors, dentists and pharmacists qualified outside the EU/EEA, a knowledge examination will generally become the standard route. Document-based equivalence assessment remains an option.
Simpler procedures for midwives: Eligible applicants can choose a knowledge examination or an adaptation course instead of the usual document-based assessment.
More digital administration: Electronic communication between authorities should reduce paperwork and make procedures more efficient.
Who Benefits?
Internationally trained healthcare professionals who want to work in Germany may benefit from these changes, particularly applicants with qualifications from outside the EU.
What Should You Do?
Check the requirements with the recognition authority in the German state where you plan to work. You may still need to provide proof of German-language skills and meet professional licensing requirements.
Important: The new rules aim to reduce bureaucracy—not lower professional standards or compromise patient safety.
