Extreme heat warnings are in force across Germany this week, with temperatures expected to climb to around 40°C on Friday.

The German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) has issued official heat warnings for large parts of the country, urging residents to take precautions and stay safe in the sweltering conditions.
Here's what you need to know:
🌡️ Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and sugary drinks that can dehydrate you faster.
🏠 Keep Indoors Cool – Close blinds and curtains during the day to block out direct sunlight. Open windows in the early morning and late evening when temperatures drop.
🚫 Avoid Peak Heat Hours – Try to stay indoors between 11am and 4pm when the sun is at its strongest. If you must go out, wear light-coloured clothing, a hat, and apply sunscreen.
👴 Check on Vulnerable People – Elderly neighbours, young children, and people with health conditions are most at risk. Make sure they are safe and have access to cool spaces.
🐾 Don't Forget Your Pets – Animals suffer in the heat too. Keep them in cool, shaded areas and make sure they have fresh water at all times. Never leave pets in parked cars.
🚗 Road Safety – High temperatures can cause road surfaces to soften and expand. Drive carefully and ensure your vehicle's cooling system is in good working order.
Germany has seen increasingly intense heatwaves in recent years, and this week's forecast is a reminder of how important it is to be prepared. Stay cool, look out for each other, and take the warnings seriously.
